As working mothers, we understand that many employers underestimate and undervalue the importance of flexibility in the workplace. While you still need to give your all at your job, you also need to be able to take care of your children and ensure you have enough time to make sure you’re raising kids you can be proud of! Phillipa Geard understands this and rather than just sit idly by, she responded by launching RecruitMyMom in 2012.
After graduating from UCT with a Bachelor of Business Science Honours, Phillipa worked locally and internationally with Procter & Gamble. After starting her family she left to raise her children, and then started her own marketing outsource company with a partner, in which she is still involved. In 2012, RecruitMyMom was launched. Phillipa was inspired by the talents and abilities of many mothers who can be a great asset in business provided they are given the flexibility they require, and sees herself as an activist for flexible working. RecruitMyMom fulfils needs for both moms and companies – so many skills are scarce in South Africa and are desperately needed by companies in various industries. Phillippa recognised that there were many people out there who could offer these services, but not in the traditional 9-5 format, which is when the idea for RecruitMyMom was born.
