Putting your Best Foot Forward with Great Expectations Maternity Coaching

October 6, 2016 By janice.windt@gmail.com

M&K-5340Before, during and after maternity leave, women make crucial decisions regarding their personal and professional lives – choices that impact themselves, their families and businesses. Great Expectations Maternity Coaching helps each woman consider the unique practical and emotional challenges she faces, to influence a seamless transition back to work and to support her future career choices.

Great Expectations is a South African company pioneering the maternity coaching concept in our country, with Melany Green and Karen Grant at the helm. Great Expectations is honoured to be affiliated to the Executive Coaching Consultancy (ECC) in London, the first company to develop and launch a Maternity Coaching programme in 2005. This company has coached over 2000 women in professional firms in the UK, and has the reputation of being the leader in this specialised field.

On the strength of their expertise, research and experience, the Great Expectations team brings to South Africa a tried and tested success formula, offering their clients the same high standard of content and delivery. Whilst being a unique concept in our market, it’s an accepted business imperative in the UK and US where maternity coaching is widely offered to women in this key transitional phase of their careers.

As Karen and Melany point out ‘There is enough evidence that gender diversity at the top delivers better business results for organisations. Studies indicate that the maternity transition is the major career pinch point, potentially limiting the pool of women available for senior positions. Firms that support women through this phase successfully, have a distinct competitive advantage.’

Melany draws on a depth of personal experience having successfully managed this ultimate plate-balancing act of a 36 year old marriage, leading a 30-year-old company and having two beautiful accomplished well-grounded daughters as the fruit! She says “Looking back, life was often out of balance, but that’s where we learn and grow. Sharing the wisdom of my journey to inspire other women to challenge their comfort zone, is what I love to do.”

Karen worked closely with Melany in launching this niche coaching concept in the South African market. With her own experience as a Mom and ex-Corporate employee in professional services, Karen skillfully and passionately helps women navigate this challenging transition to manage their career and broader lives optimally.

You Lose Guilt Fairy! – Guest Post by Megan Townshend

She’s everywhere and we do not like her! The Guilt Fairy first made her appearance 2 years ago when my daughter Charlie was born. She then decided to hang around, still uninvited, until Jamie was born 18 months later. Now it seems she has taken up permanent residence in my home, at my office, in…
