Lynda Smith: Parenting and Work in a 21st Century World

August 30, 2016 By janice.windt@gmail.com

Lynda SmithLynda Smith is the CEO of Refirement Network, a networking hub that allows individuals of retirement age to understand the challenges and opportunities awaiting them, as well as helping them to plan for the second half of their lives. The Refirement Network “aims to educate individuals, Corporates and other  interested parties, to plan and pursue various alternatives to traditional retirement – including coaching, volunteer work, starting a second career, starting your own business, travel, learning new skills and enjoying family and friends.”

Lynda is passionate about education and development and this is reflected in her choice of work over the years. She started her own Educational School Supplies company, became Sales and Marketing Director of Smile Education Systems, has worked with the TomorrowToday team, and was a key player in growing the MySchool programme in association with Woolworths.  She also spent several years as the CEO of a social enterprise helping to change early childhood development in South Africa. Lynda has two adult children, who she raised while carving out a business enterprise, and has four grandchildren.

Lynda Smith says that “Parenting is one of the most important journeys you will ever embark on. Life where both parents balance work and home life means that strong principles and lessons have to be adopted and learnt ensure that everyone survives and thrives.”

You can catch Lynda at 9.45am on Sunday 6 November at the Working Mothers Expo. Her speech is entitled ‘Lessons to my Younger Self- The Journey of Parenting and Work in a 21st Century World’ and is Lynda’s own reflection on what she would advise her younger self after walking this journey.  Visit the Speakers Corner to hear about some of the lessons and crossroads Lynda has experienced along her life’s journey.
